Thanks to a fluke of orbital mechanics that brings the moon closer to Earth than that it has been in more than 18 years, the biggest full moon of 2011 will occur on Saturday, leading some observers to dub it a “supermoon.”¬†The best time to look is when the Moon is near the horizon. That is when illusion mixes with reality to produce a truly stunning view. For reasons not fully understood by astronomers or psychologists, low-hanging Moons look unnaturally large when they beam through trees, buildings and other foreground objects.¬†Though not the best picture (we had clouds during sunset) I didn’t find it “bigger” but it did seem brighter.

We went out to see it and then went for a walk around the block. It was really clear at our house so by the time we got home- we were FROZEN!!
