Sunroom…

gable12 (51k image)

We would like to add an all season room to the house. We thought about taking out the front windows and having this room added to the very front- gable roof, all glass that opens. We think we would use the room a lot- don’t know if we want to spend the money. We have had a couple bids- very different information. Input?

I’d love something like that, I’d fill it with plants galore! I’m obsessed with plants.

That is not our size- ours would be 12 x 19 ish…we have already reconsidered moving back to the other side, going smaller and more "porch" like than extra room like. Cost for a room is $34-37,000 (right). We do have a builder looking at rooms and he is much cheaper than the prefab’s. Nothing happening right away for sure except I am doing my ceilings when school is out!

That is a beautiful room, but looks very big. Do your need that much space? It would be lovely but make sure it is something you would use a lot before you sink a lot of money in it. You always think things through and I’m sure you will with this too. Mom

Any add-on like this is going to cost you, the key is to do it right the first time. Full glass rooms like this are nice, but if you want to make it a true all season room, you may want to consider something with half walls. This way you can keep it somewhat warm in the cold months. On top of that, it is the front of your house, so everyone can look thru all the glass. I could see it with large sliding windows, sky lights, and heating vents.

I think you should look into making it a sunroom/screened porch of sorts first with the capabilities to enclose later on… that way you won’t spend such a hefty price and the option and luxury are still there. Whatever you decide, it will be amazing!
