Former First Lady Barbara Bush (1925-) was born Barbara Pierce on this day and grew up in Rye, New York, the daughter of magazine publisher Marvin Pierce. She met her husband, George, at a dance when she was 16 years old.
Mrs. Bush’s solution for a better America? Read to children and grandchildren. “There is no better way to spend time with your children and grandchildren than to read to them. It has been proven that children who are read to have a higher vocabulary level and have a love for reading.”

I’m reading "I Know This Much is True." I borrowed it from a friend, although I am not really far into it yet. It is one of Oprah’s booklist items. The author has another book called "She’s Undone" and it is supposed to be GREAT (also on Orah’s booklist)! It is written by a man, but I’ve been told that you never would guess that because it’s written in the perspective of a woman. I’ll have to try that one next.

That’s my favorite part of the day. REading with Delaney before bedtime. She climbs up on my lap in the big yellow chair and she picks the ones she wants to read. If you pick one she doesn’t want to read she says "no,no" and picks the one she wants. She has her favorites- ELMER is right up there- thanks Aunt Krissy!!
