“Keep a sane pace.”
Today, more than ever, many of us live at a pace that can only be described as “crazy”. In addition to the incredible demands of simply getting by, earning a living, raising a family, and attending to our daily responsibilities, many of also attempt to partake in recreational activities and other ventures. The problem is, each of us only has twenty-four hours in a day. There is only so much we can do.

Keeping a sane pace does more than keep us sane. It brings richness to our experience that is impossible to experience when we are rushing around too quickly. There is something magical about having a little space between activities, a sense of calm, of having enough time.

I think you’ll find that if you can slow down, even slightly, the quality of your life will be enhanced in many ways.

Well today is dad/ {{popup dad-5ish.JPG dad-5ish 397×599}}Poppy’s birthday- everyone remember to give him a call. Hard to believe he is 29!

“Remember that everything has God’s fingerprints on it.”
It’s easy to see God’s beauty in a beautiful sunrise, snow-capped mountain, the smile of a healthy child, or ocean waves crashing on a sandy beach. But can we learn to find holiness in seemingly ugly circumstances-difficult life lessons, a family tragedy, or life struggle?

Somewhere, in the back of your mind, try to remember that everything has God’s fingerprints on it. The fact that we can’t see the beauty in something doesn’t suggest that it’s not there. Rather, it suggests that we are not looking carefully enough or with a broad enough perspective to see it!

Today we had our convocation and the guest speaker was Jackie Pflug. As the article says- she was on board a hijacked airplane-shot in the head and left for dead only she didn’t die- her message was powerful and moving. I thanked God for the good fortune in my life- the health and well being of all my family, blessings beyond compare (healthy children, many children, love and laughter, successes and lots of wonderful memories) and it made you think about all the little things that bend us out of shape that really have no significance but seem to at the time. So today I make a commitment in my life to stop sweating the small stuff and I challenge all of you to do the same.

“Remind yourself that when you die, your “in basket” won’t be empty” -The purpose of life isn’t to get it all done but to enjoy each step along the way and live a life filled with love. Don’t waste any more precious moments of your life regretting the inevitable.

Well we are blogging too! Just here to update everyone on “us” too. Kam will be starting flag football practice on the 20th – yes another era. Kenny’s 20 year class reunion is this weekend- look out all the guys are getting back together! Kevin, can’t wait to see you. Kay, can’t wait to see that tummy and catch up! I will be starting college courses full time at Oswego for a degree in Elem. Ed. on the 3rd. It has really been a very busy summer with some ups and downs, as I’m sure you know that our home was burglarized a few weeks ago. We will survive however. Well ta ta for now- blog later!

It came in with a bang in the way of a thunderstorm. The sky lit up like a stobe and the rain fell- we needed it. I taught my first conflict resolution class Saturday (it went well), gave my in-service to teachers at St. Gabriel’s today (it went well), met with my UMKC colleague yesterday to design our new course (it went well)- tomorrow I am back at school! So today I will go finish decorating my rooms and take my last night off to have a little fun.

Stay tuned for more pictures of my house as I hope to paint the finale colors in the living room/dining room this weekend. If the weather starts to cool- I have to hit the barn (it is like a spare room- anything in the way- throw it in the barn and does it need some help!)

Any ideas on a new picture for the top- let me know- I want to change the lay out soon- open to suggestions folks.

Kevin- when you go home this Friday- show mom this site so she knows what I am talking about! Let’s impress her with a flood of blogs- tell us what’s up everybody!

Till we blog again…

All over Winston-Salem there are these billboards with sayings from God. I guess they are causing quite the controversy, but I personally think it’s a great campaign and I thought you would all enjoy this. Please read and share your thoughts… I think they’re great! THey are very simple… white text on a black background. I tried to make the Billboard link at the bottom look like they really are.

“It was to be a simple campaign with simple thoughts. A campaign that spoke to those that needed to be more engaged with God. It was to be a campaign that was light and humorous–capable of causing a smile or changing a strayed emotion or thought. It was to be a campaign that was consistent with the Bible and its claims. But most of all, it was to be a campaign for those that were open to hear the voice of God and be subtly transformed by it’s transcendent principles.” – an excerpt from the article below.

They also have a great website with stories and merchandise matching the saying from the billboards at

I don’t know if this is taking place where you are but it is in Kansas City. Monday night they say you can see a meteor every minute. Tonight I went out for 15-20 minutes and saw three- it was way cool. For more information- check out Perseid Meteor Showers.
I made three wishes- it can never hurt!
I wish you all well.

Since we have talked about and have recently discovered some fairly significant health issues in our family I thought I would share this article.
This is the information my doctor suggested for me (not the diet/The Zone) but the concept of chicken/fish and veggies. This article talks about a lot of the health issues I currently have- aches in my joints, tired, can’t sleep. I have just started the zone way of eating (it’s a mental thing/ the nonuse of the word diet) and will keep you updated on my progress. The Zone does have a web site.
Till we blog again- Healthy Eating!

Linda and I tried to finish the house painting this weekend- NO SUCH LUCK! We did complete part of the dining room {{popup MVC-522F.JPG MVC-522F 640×480}} The glass blocks are trimmed in wood that got stained, the upper wall is “Martha Stewart Soleil” and below the chair rail is “Ralph Lauren Suede Doeskin Grey”. We love the suede but think too much yellow is not good. We did paint another wall green and Linda said it had to go (she hates it) so it is a redo- I think it is going to the Suede and the other half of the wall- that runs into the kitchen is going to be a lighter shade of the Suede. So- more to come.

Linda starts her next 10 week session (2 left/20 weeks) and she will be done. The hospital she does clinicals at wants her to start work- she is not sure if she will do it (we will know when she comes home tonight).

I have “Back to School Services” today for my kids so I am officially back to work. I have spent the last two days decorating my new office at my new school- it is beautiful (I’ll take pictures soon).

Well I just looked up 17 of 48 articles for my college class and I am tired (remember- I have to get up early- UGH!)

Well I have figured out how to change colors of links (now we can see them)and added some poems and quotes (let me know if you have some you would like added). My next goal will be to change the format of the layout but with school starting it may take awhile. Continue to enjoy and I’ll continue to learn- all suggestions welcome!

To anyone who will be around, I am going to be going home the weekend of August 16-18. The rents just can’t live without me!

Anyways, it will be nice to see everyone and to get away from the humidity for a weekend. Talk to you all real soon.

erinhaircut2 (38k image)I got a new haircut and thought I would share it with ya’ll (oh ya, gotta represent the drawl). I’m thinking about adding some very subtle highlights as well! It’s not the greatest picture to show it, but you will all see it in person very soon! I’m excited to see my family in September! I can’t wait to see my Aunt Kay too! Are you showing??? I’m so excited for you guys!

We must believe in luck. For how else can we explain the success of those we don’t like?
– Jean Cocteau

I thought this was funny!! Enjoy!

Well, I thought that I would check out all the excitment. I actually liked that I can see what everyone has been up to, even when I can’t find time to pick up the phone. Bob and I have been busy lately. We played in a charity golf tournament with Kenny last weekend (I think I kicked both their butts, so Kevin your next!!) I’m having lunch with Mother today. That’s one of the wonderful perks of living back in NY!! We have been busy doing baby preparations. We have signed up for daycares (yes, 7 months in advance!!) We have also registered for shower gifts, signed up for birthing classes, and gathering information for the Baptism. We are considering having it the weekend after Christmas (Sunday, December 29th). For anyone travelling home, please let us know if this is something you would like to attend, that will help us to make the decision. If not, then we will probably go with the 3rd weekend in January. For all of you who know about my quest for a rocking chair for Delaney’s room… We have made progress. The company that I have been working with has gone out of their way to accommodate me and we are getting close to a fabric and a color. I loved to get people to do it my way!! Since I am getting close to the end, I guess I better wrap things up. Hope everyone has a great weekend. Happy Birthday Linda!! We miss everyone and Buffy sends lots of smootches. Maybe next time I’ll take a picture of my stomach so you can see how big it’s getting!! Love, BKBD

Hope this finds everyone cool…thanks for taking the time to sign up and keep in touch.
I made this post to see if it would change the calendar from July to August (it did). Still learning the program and checking things out. If anyone has any questions don’t hesitate to ask (I’ll probably have to ask Erin) but we are doing pretty good. Next goal is to rebuild the look of the page- this will take some playing around, suggestions welcome.
