The DiSanto's Posts

I have a friend who is in Kuwait and I’ve decided to send him a care package (sending tomorrow). I’ve been researching on the web to find out what is typically sent and what the soldiers need. I’ve found that there are plenty of adopt a soldier type programs out there. I wanted to make my friends day and send a thanks to him for defending our country. Is anyone else interested in sending a care package?? If so I can get some addresses from Joe, maybe some soldier who doesn’t get any packages… If you do want to do this, i’ll get a list from Joe and I can send you a list of some things that are sent to the Soldiers. I thought this is a great idea, a way to share some home to our guys over seas. As a further note, most of the items that these soldiers need you can purchase in the dollar store, so for 10 dollars you could put together a decent package for someone.

Way #2 The Smiling Way and Way # 3 Eating Mango while singing The world spins. Souls enter and depart. Overwhelming, mysterious.Sometimes one can become so serious about mysterious. Serious is fine but try to smile when serious. The more serious, the bigger the smile. Eat a mango while smiling.
“When the body dies and my soul set free, this tree will make a meal of me. A perfect circle as any can be as I eat the mango to feed the tree, to eat the mango to feed the tree.” Laugh, dance and eat a mango while singing.
(Please remember there is more to the story- these are the highlights which seem to get lost without the whole story- but I’m going to share them anyway)

I recently discovered the mango- and love them. I have also read the book- seventeen ways to eat a mango- love it. It appears to be out of print so I thought I would share.

Way #1- Eat the Mango where the sky begins. One way can be learned by starting to see the magic in everything. Sometimes it seems to be hiding but it is always there. The more we can see the magic in one thing, he more we are able to see the magic in everything and in everyone. Practice seeing miracles everywhere… where does the mango stop and the sky begin?

I just wanted to write about something I went to for work the other day. It’s called Room Full of Sisters. It is basically a bunch of woman who get together to celebrate being a woman. Lots of stories, songs, and speeches. Hillary Clinton was invited, but she was at the Sentate. Her entire staff was there however and her assistant read a letter sent from her. There was also crafts all around made by women.

I really enjoyed the day and felt better about being a woman afterwards. It is open to anyone to attend, and I think some of the women in our family should go next year. The ticket was $35, which covered a very good meal, and part of that goes into a fund. This years fund was donated to the RISE breast cancer foundation, local to Auburn. Every year they donate the proceeds to a women or girls foundation. Even younger girls can go, the owasco 5th graders were there!

Let me know if anyone is interested and I’ll have you put on the list to recieve an invitation next year. Coburn Design (my company) designs the invitation. It is held every year in March.

I follow the web page of Noah Grey. He is a wonderful photographer and the writer of Greymatter (the program used on this blog page). One of his last entries was quite intriguing- a friend of his was doing a “Soundtrack of Your Life”. The idea is much as it sounds; make an imaginary CD’s worth of songs (totaling no more than 80 minutes), listed in order, that tell your story as you see it. To see his, visit: Grey Expectations. What’s on the soundtrack of your life?

I was talking with Erin Marie this weekend and we thought it strange (not really-great minds think alike) that we have similar Buffalo Wing receipes. So I thought I would share (I know these are Kevin Michael’s favorites!)
Enjoy (hit more for receipe).

Imagine all the people
living life in peace
You may say I’m a dreamer,
but I’m not the only one.
I hope someday you’ll join us,
and the world will live as one.

Chicken with Hoisin Sauce
From: Mrs. Chiang’s Szechwan Cookbook by Ellen Schrecker (with a few modifications)

2 whole chicken breasts (about 1-1/2 to 2 lb.)
6 scallions or onions
3 Tbsp. soy sauce
1 tsp. sesame oil
1 Tbsp. Chinese rice wine or cooking sherry
1 tsp. salt
5 to 6 cloves garlic
3 Tbsp. peanut oil
2 Tbsp. hoisin sauce
1 Tbsp. water

Bone the chicken and pull off all the skin. Chop the meat into 1-inch cubes and put them in a bowl. Clean the scallions and then cut them, the white part and most of the green, into 1/2-inch lengths. Add the scallions or onions to the chicken, along with the soy sauce, sesame oil, wine, and salt. Mix well and set aside to marinate for at least 15 minutes. Smash the garlic cloves with the side of your cleaver and then peel. Chop the garlic as fine as you can. Heat your wok or pan over a high flame for 15 seconds and then add the oil. It will be hot enough to cook with when the first tiny bubbles form and a few small wisps of smoke appear. When the oil is ready, toss in the chopped garlic and stir it around in the hot oil for 10 seconds. Add the hoisin sauce and stir-fry for 30 seconds, using your cooking shovel or spoon to keep the ingredients moving so they don’t burn or stick. Combine the water and the chicken mixture and stir well, then add the chicken mixture to the pan. Cook, stirring occasionally, for about 5 minutes or until the chicken is stiff and is completely cooked. Serve immediately.

Linda and I decided to re-decorate the house now that she is done with school. We moved the wall unit that was in her bedroom into the living room, purchased a new couch and loveseat. Then we redecorated the bookshelves, got a new rug, pillows and throws. It looks much warmer (and fuller).
Here is a picture of the {{popup room.JPG room 423×291}}living room,{{popup couch.JPG couch 415×281}}couch with pillows & throw,{{popup rug.jpg room 228×316}}close up of the rug,and the {{popup bookcase.jpg room 249×319}}bookcase redecorated. My next job will be to re-paint the back wall (we painted it green-Linda doesn’t like it) and to add curtains across 6 windows to soften the quilted covers now on there. Then we hope to look for a bedroom set for Linda (she got a new bed last fall and got rid of the waterbed which meant she lost her frame). It looks pretty lost on the floor (though she likes it!) Slowly but surely we make this house a home! By the way…it’s open to visitors!
