Jonathan Ozimek Update

For anyone who read my last post about my best friend’s brother, I thought I would provide an update. Quick summary for those who didn’t read… he was diagnosed with non-hotchkins lymphoma (cancer) when he was 14-15 years old. He is now 20 and has been in remission for the past 4 years and now the cancer seems to be back and is really taking on toll on little Jon’s body. His white blood cell counts were so low that he contracted a very bad lung infection and has been in the hospital for weeks in a drug-induced coma.

Here is the last update I received from Vanessa (my best friend):

Jon is still in ICU fighting this lung infection. He has made progress, and they have determined that there are signs of the cancer being back. Jon just got off the respirator and due to all the heavy sedatives, he is now experiencing withdrawls from 18 days of high dose drugs. Mike and I went to visit him yesterday, and were surprised to see him in a chair. He is SO weak, but he’s also been bedridden for 3 weeks straight! He still has so much to get through, but it is nice to be able to hear him talk back to us, although very shakey and stuttered. They had him so pumped with fluids a week ago, he weighed more than 200 pounds!!! Now he’s shrunken up like a raisin… probably about 110 pounds. Anyway, the best thing for him now is to hear and see people he knows and slowly work all the drugs out of his system. I’ll probably stay for the week. I am so happy to see him again and talk to him… and WITH him!!!! The doctors are still working on a game plan for attacking the disease (the underlying problem), but he seems to have improved his lungs immensly! Thanks for all the prayers, and keep ’em coming!

He’ll soon be dancing at my wedding!!! Keep warm and safe. Hope you are
doing well… Happy New Year! Love, V

I’ll keep praying…send him Steven Halpern’s music CD- helps heal. I bet an eye pillow would feel good too. If you don’t have the CD let me know- I’ll make him one.
