Romanesco Italia
Golden Beet
Listada de Gandia
Little Gem
Dark Lollo Rossa
De Morges Braun
Corn Salad – Dutch
Wrinkled Crinkled Cress
Corn Salad or Mache

I have started my seeds… so far Onions (yellow and green scallions) and Pepper (4 kinds). I don’t know if I’ll be putting in my garden, since I don’t know where life is taking me… but I figured I might as well start the seeds I already bought! Maybe I’ll sell them at a Farmers Market or something…

I may have to do raised beds because of the clay here… yeah, I think a small container garden may be best fro me for now… a few tomatoes, jalepenos, and a few herbs. We’ll see what happens as the weather gets warmer though. Part of the problem is also that I don’t know what’s already growing here because we came in at the end of the summer. I think I may have to wait a year just to see what might already be in the ground (for flowers I mean). I’m just so anxious to make the outside look better.

It took us three years before we could put in a garden- didn’t even look at it the first year then the second year we removed the carpet (yes carpet) he put to keep out weeds that didn’t work, brought in mushroom compost and then the third year- planted. This year I plan to expand to some raised beds as I will need more room.

I’m still trying to decide if this is the year I will put in a small garden or not. We have red clay and it needs a lot of compost material and soil to get it ready… plus I need to clear the area near the shed to do it which means taking down small trees and raking lots of stuff that has accumulated from the previous owners (which we have started). I really want to do this but I’m not sure what will grow. I bought a few seeds… basic herbs (basil, chives, oregano, cilantro), cucumbers, squash (including spaghetti squash), and lettuce, and I got some flowers because we need some landscaping badly. I got lots of bulbs from Sams club and cannot wait to get them out in the next few weeks. I will probably wait until the local nurseries start putting out plants and I will get a few tomatoes and a jalepeno or two for fresh salsa. I may just do everything in containers this year while I prep the area I want a garden in. Oh, I can’t wait for someday to come.
