Drunken Chicken

I was in a meeting today and someone was talking about “drunken chicken.” I asked what it was and apparently it is a chicken that you grill over a can of beer. It it supposed to be one of the best and most moist chickens!!! I found the recipe and thought I would share. ENJOY!

Drunken Chicken
From: HGTV

1 whole chicken, any size
3/4 cup olive oil
salt and pepper to taste
garlic powder to taste
16-oz. can of beer, 3/4 full (use your favorite brand)
Rosemary Sprig (optional)*


Coat the outside of the chicken with olive oil. Season inside and out with salt, pepper and garlic powder. Place chicken, large cavity end, over the open can of beer. Be sure to use the tall canned beer, as the 12-ounce cans don’t work as well.

Place the chicken and beer on an aluminum pie plate. Place the plate on a medium to high grill. Cover and cook until done, depending on the size of the chicken used and how hot the grill gets.

Be careful when removing chicken from the beer can, as the can will be very hot. Place chicken on serving plate and enjoy.

Yield: 2 servings

*A woman I work with says to add a sprig of rosemary to the can of beer before placing the chicken over it.

    Uncle Jef made this for me. He uses different kids of rubs and does the chickens in the grill. Very very tasty. He calls it Beer can Chicken.

    I tried this before and it is good- keeps it moist (doesn’t taste like beer).
