Celebrate Earth Day!

makeveryday (2k image) Earth Day is a time to celebrate. We, the American public, have accomplished so much. Gone are the days when air pollution could turn noon to night, when rivers caught fire, and toxic waste was poured down drains.

Earth Day is a time to unite. The environment knows no boundaries. We all breathe the same air, drink the same water. We all cause pollution – every one of us. And working together, we can find the solutions and effect the changes needed to protect our planet.

Earth Day is a time to act. To turn off a light, compost yard waste, join a car pool, clean a stream, or plant a tree. We know there are common sense actions that will serve our common interests.

Earth Day is a time to anticipate. To anticipate a future where we can clean the environment and affirm our nation’s economic competitiveness. A future where accelerating the velocity of environmental progress should be our vision

I recycle everything that I can, use the "Rinse and Hold" feature on my dish washer so that I do not waste electricity drying dishes, turn off electricity all the time (including my computer at night), and I buy shade-grown coffee. I even have a few of those energy-efficient light bulbs! I would plant stuff or contribute to the Arbor Day foundation, except that where I am I cannot plant anything. I only have a small patio and my landlord doesn’t want people planting stuff. I’ve tried container gardening, but my patio is too shaded and everything dies on me. 🙁

I donate to the arbor day foundation and get trees to plant too. Everyone should, it’s only $10 and you get to plant trees to help mother nature. Plus you get a cool newsletter about gardening and yard work which I always enjoy browsing!

I compost and wish our city recycled. We do at school with paper. I try to add to nature by planting trees and flowers, I don’t litter or drive an SUV (though I must admit I would if I could). One thing I do is turn off the water when I brush my teeth until it is time to rinse- little things help. We have to love Mother Earth or we will lose her(then we will be SOL)!

Yes, support for Earth day is needed. I always try to do my part. For those who would like some things to do, here are a few:
Give $10 to the Arbor Day Foundation and receive 10 free trees to plant: ArborDay.org

Take the Green Ribbon Pledge to conserve energy (you’d be surprised the little things you can do… check it out and see how much energy you can save): greenribbonpledge.org

Donate money to the Rainforest Rescue program (as little at $10): Rain Forest Rescue

Buy Shade Grown Coffee and help save the rainforest and the migratory birds (you can get some at Whole Foods Market or stop by a Caribou Coffee place instead of Starbucks-Caribou supports shade grown).
