We hired a backhoe to take out two tree trunks and 8 poles from the old deck. The man who built the deck did not build it to code but laid the posts with 4 foot of concrete (see picture above). He even poured the concrete through the phone wire which we had to sledge hammer out. Sunday we spent sanding the window frames (new blinds get installed next Saturday). Oh my aching body!

Someone sent this to me at school today- I was also having a similar conversation with one of my sisters lately so I took it as a “GOD wink” to share (not the part about being harsh with our families (though that should give us pause) but that family is more important then work- I know they would replace me in a blink of an eye and don’t think twice about the extra I do (regardless of cost to my personal life) so I saw it’s time to start prioritizing our lives– click more for the poem on

This weekend we finished off some of our beds- we unloaded a truck load of gravel. Here is the {{popup MVC-813F.JPG MVC-813F 467×373}} flower bed where the deck steps use to be.A close up of the {{popup MVC-814F.JPG MVC-814F 467×373}} rock we used to cover the beds. Our {{popup MVC-815F.JPG MVC-815F 467×373}} strawberry patch. We have 3-4 different types under the plum tree. Here is the {{popup MVC-819F.JPG MVC-819F 467×373}} flower bed near the patio- we had spirias but Linda put in flowers to match the flower bed in the {{popup MVC-818F.JPG MVC-818F 467×373}} half circle. We removed the red brick in front of the concrete patio and laid {{popup MVC-817F.JPG MVC-817F 467×373}} sod– looks much nicer. Now we can bring out the 10×10 canopy. We tore out the deck (I think we are putting a new one in) but planted some burning bushes to make a {{popup MVC-822F.JPG MVC-822F 467×373}} hedge. Since you can see this from the street- a fence did not look so hot (here is a {{popup MVC-109F.JPG MVC-109F 467×373}} before picture- big difference. I started my {{popup MVC-823F.JPG MVC-823F 467×373}} herb garden (got in the plants) but the hardscape needs to be laid properly. It will look better. There is rhubarb in the back and a walk way that needs to be set. It will have a border on each side but I ran out of brick (need 36 more). We have several types of sage, basil, parsley, fennel, lavender, oregano, thyme, rosemary- still need oregano and chives. This is where that lovely {{popup MVC-111F.JPG MVC-111F 467×373}} shed use to live that we finally had torn down. And last- we have a new friend to brighten up our bench…{{popup MVC-821F.JPG MVC-821F 467×373}} Mr. Frog!

I was in the middle of a phone call with Poppy when the phone went dead…a tornado moved through the area (not my house) but in Parkville. The storm is still in the metro area- damage is still being done- so far many homes lost and as of this time- 1 death. We had hail the size of golf balls (beat up my plants a bit) but we are lucky and safe.

Just thought I’d check in and see what everyone’s up to… My semester is coming to a close- last day of classes is 5/9. I have several papers and a couple tests before the close though- wish me luck! I am hoping to take three summer courses and I will be helping the school summer program again this year. I need to focus on coming up with idea projects etc. Any ideas? Kam has his first Minor League Baseball game on Saturday. He has been busy with the Terra Nova teasting this week. ‘he says he thinks he got a 100’ Uncle Kevin- that Spiderman is in bed with him every night! That was truely great! Although he got very mad at me for not letting him take it to school. It’s too big! Kenny is very happy. He gets to golf pretty regulrly now. He and Kam come out to the club every Friday. Let’s hope the weather here holds out for Saturday so he can golf. Well that’s all folks!! Get it?

Come on folks- a busy month so I know there has to be lots going on…let us know.
I have finish my class at UMKC so I have 3 weeks to work on house projects before my next class starts. Last night I worked 4 hours preparing the “Herb Bed” I have about 25 different herbs. Linda put in the strawberries- we have 4-5 different types. I started the butterfly garden so things are looking up. We are building another brick wall but have to wait for the bobcat to remove 8 poles (tried to dig them up last night- this is why you need a man!)After we finish- Hello hot tub! Anyone want to join us? Kansas City sure is nice this time of year.

Linda planted two new trees today. One “Van Cherry” and one “White Princess Peach”. We already have a plum, two apple and a non-fruit bearing apricot (it’s mate died two years ago). We also got in two blackberry bushes, asparagus, rhubarb and 10 tomato plants. Can’t wait till summer!

Linda brought in the treadmill so we could start walking (it was in the barn) we cleaned it off and realized the on/off key was missing. We had packed it away when we moved (3 years ago) and had no idea were it was. Linda looked, I looked in the barn, upstairs, in spare boxes and the desks- so after much frustration- I prayed to St. Anthony. Several hours later I went back upstairs to look in some boxes- no luck. As I was walking out of the room I saw two bags that use to be in the bottom of the water bed- I looked in (never dreaming it would be in there) and right on top- the key! (Saved $37.50). Way to go St. Anthony!
