A classic soul…

Actress Katharine Hepburn (1907-2003) was born on this day and lived her life as a celebration of independence and self-esteem.
In Hollywood she defied the studio honchos, refused interviews, and wore slacks and no makeup. “Live it, do it, or shut up,” she dared and made her own policies. “If you obey all the rules, you miss all the fun.”

Pizza for breakfast is almost as good as a fresh glazed donut. I miss donuts.

I’m not so sure I want to learn to spit and I already hoard things in and out of boxes! Maybe i was fashionable before my time! ~grin~

    Here’s the poem:

    "Warning"
    by Jenny Joseph

When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat which doesn’t go and doesn’t suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we’ve no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I’m tired
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells
And run my stick along the public railings
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick the flowers in other people’s gardens . . .
    And learn to spit.

You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat
And eat three pounds of sausages at a go
Or only bread and pickle for a week
And hoard pens and pencils and beermats and things in boxes.

But now we must have clothes that keep us dry
And pay our rent and not swear in the street
And set a good example for the children.
We must have friends to dinner and read the papers.

But maybe I ought to practice a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.

This goes along with the idea behing the Red Hat Society… there are chapters all over the world and anyone can start one. It is to celebrate life and have fun. Women aged 50 and older wear purple clothes with a red hat. I’ve been told it was inspired by a poem that says why not wear purple with a red hat. People under 50 can be a part too, only they wear lavender and pink. The objective is for women to just have fun with each other and not hold back… I love it! There are so many things that we question that now in hind site you realize rules can be bent to accomodate the "individual" in all of us. As long as the rules do not affect our safety or the safety of others, why can’t we modify them to fit our liking? What does it hurt if we color the sky purple or eat pizza for breakfast?!!
