Steve, Mary A.
Clyde/Rochester: Mary Angeline (Distefano) Steve, a wife, mother, chef, accountant, and seamstress, and made lunches legendary for thousands of children at St. John’s, Clyde Central School, and Wayne County Home, passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 31, 2015, with her loving family in attendance. She was 103 wonderful years old, and resided at St. Ann’s Community Home in Rochester, NY.
Mary was predeceased by her husband, Bernard, in 1994. She is survived by her five children: Mary Anne Deck, Phyllis (Richard) Tomasso, Bernadette (Michael) Mainzer, Eugene Stefanucci, and Paul (Robyn) Steve. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A resident of Clyde for 70 years, when you met Mary on the street or came to her door, she would greet you with “Hello Dolly!”, and it became her signature greeting.
The Funeral Mass will be held at the Chapel at St. Ann’s Community, 1500 Portland Ave., Rochester, NY, on Friday, Feb. 13th at 11 AM. A reception will be held immediately following at Keenan’s Restaurant, 1010 East Ridge Rd., Rochester, NY. Entombment will be at St. John’s Cemetery, Geneva St., Clyde, NY, at 2 PM, Saturday, Feb. 14th, with a reception immediately following at 26 Water St., Clyde, NY. The family suggests that, in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to St. Ann’s Community in Mary’s name.
